International Workshop on
Web Information Systems Modeling (WISM 2004)
(Held in conjunction with CAISE 2004)
June 8, 2004
Riga, Latvia
Theme of the Workshop
Web Information Systems (WIS) use the Web paradigm
(and technologies) to retrieve information from data sources and deliver it
to the users. An important task for WIS is to bridge the gap between a collection
of heterogeneous and dynamic data sources and a group of users with different
preferences using different platforms for accessing the information. The diversity
of Web users makes the one-size-fits-all approach not applicable anymore.
While in the past developing a Web application typically
meant ad-hoc programming and a mixture of content and presentation design, the
current data-intensive nature of WIS requires a more rigorous development process.
Design methodologies providing guidelines for the creation of modern WIS are
becoming essential. These methodologies should facilitate different aspects
of WIS design such as conceptual design, hypermedia design, presentation design,
adaptation design etc. True Web engineering approaches offer designers and programmers
a design framework often based on a model-driven approach, specifying the different
aspects of the complete application design in terms of different models following
the separation of concerns principle.

Goal of the Workshop
The aim of the workshop is to provide a platform for
bringing together researchers, practitioners, designers, and users of WIS to
enable a fruitful exchange of ideas in the state-of-the-art of this field.
Topics of Interest
The workshop topics include but are not limited to:
-

Paper Submission
Prospective workshop participants are invited to submit
a paper related to one (or more) of the workshop topics. Papers should not exceed
5000 words in length and should be formatted as close as possible to the Springer
LNCS style http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html. They need to be original
and not submitted or accepted for publication in any other workshop, conference,
or journal. The organizers will oversee a peer-review process for the submitted
papers. Papers should be submitted to wism2004@win.tue.nl in PDF format.
Publication
Workshop proceedings will be published in
the official CAiSE Workshop proceedings. Authors of selected papers will be
invited to submit extended versions for publication in the Journal of Web Engineering
(JWE) and the International Journal of Web Engineering and Technology (IJWET).
